Meet the editors.

Hey there, welcome to PubReady. I’m Alyssa, founder and medical editor.

When you work with PubReady, you’re working with someone with professional experience on both the research and editing sides. After earning my PhD in Molecular Genetics at the University of Toronto, I undertook post-doctoral training at Harvard Medical School and Oregon Health & Science University. During my academic career, I co-authored 13 peer-reviewed papers, wrote and was award five grants, and edited countless other manuscripts for my colleagues (for very little money - i.e., none - in true grad student fashion). Since then, I’ve spent the last half-decade gaining professional medical editing experience in my roles as a contracted copy editor for a global science communications company and an in-house scientific copy editor for a health research publisher. I’ve also earned the American Medical Writers Association’s Certificate in Medical Editing. For a complete CV, check out my personal LinkedIn profile.

So why take on the editing work myself? In my early days as a contracted copy editor, I came to realize that the client experience was very “hit or miss” - some editors were great, some… tried their best, and others simply didn’t care. Unfortunately, the company I was with at the time had very lenient prerequisites for employment; their business model involved hiring loads of people and weeding out the underperformers over time. As a result, their clients, who paid on a per-word basis to have their writing polished, often received a subpar edit. I was frequently asked to re-edit documents that had been unsatisfactorily edited by other editors, which resulted in more work for me and longer delays for the client. The solution was simple: I’ll just do it myself from the start. As PubReady grows, you’ll begin to see new faces on this page, but rest assured that any new medical editors will as good as or better than I am. There’s no room for underperformers on the PubReady team.

In over 5 years working in the industry, I’ve gained extensive experience editing for both native and non-native English-speaking researchers in the life and health sciences. I take pride in the quality of my work and the speed with which it is delivered. I created PubReady so that researchers and industry professionals would have the option for high quality editing without the headaches: no quotes, no delays, no underperformers. Your work has the potential to change lives; taking care of your editing needs is a contribution I’m honored to make.
